Happy Honu (with a nod to the Hawaiian green sea turtle, known as a majestic link between man, land and sea), is a striking five bedroom / 5.5 bath home located in Cape Fear Station. This reverse floor plan design includes three bedrooms downstairs: one cavernous master bedroom with private bath and a king bed. The second downstairs bedroom consists of a queen bed as well as its own private bath. The third bedroom has a double and twin bunkbed with an additional pull-out queen bed and an attached bathroom. There is also a sizable relaxing deck on the main, lower level as well as a roomy screened porch that can be accessed off both the queen and master bedrooms. Upstairs welcomes you into a enormous great room; a spacious, very well outfitted kitchen; dining room with seating for eight at the table and an additional five seats at the counter (including a highchair for little ones); a half bath and a huge master suite with a king bed and its own private bathroom. The upper deck off the living room is one of the all-time favorite spots where guests can relax on the outdoor couch and seating area or dine at the welcoming table for eight. Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Get the most from your budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Carolina Beach area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for local tours and attractions.

How to pick the best vacation home:

  • Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Welcome to Happy Honu has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect for any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
