The home was just impressive. It was clean with great furnishings and supplies. The kitchen was ideal for cooking and eating take out. I was so thankful for the condiments, coffee, plastic wrap and starter supply of household items. The location was a short walk, bicycle ride or golf cart ride to the beach. We adored the Shoals Club most days which was close by. The neighborhood was very peaceful and we appreciated it. This was our first visit th BHI and we will certainly be back. June 2022
We adored this home! Not a detail was overlooked. Kitchen was entirely supplied with everything you could possibly need! Beds and pillows were super comfortable and the linens were very nice. We will be back! July 2022.

This was our first time staying at the Royal Tern, second time in BHI. The home was magnificant- from the sizable and airy kitchen and main living space, to the bedrooms, down to the littlest beachy details. The outdoor shower, screened in porch with fan and the bespoke bunk beds were also giant pluses. Comfortably slept our family of 4 and our friend’s family of 3. We’re also humongous fans of the location - the home is a few min.’s ride to Shoals, mike’s bites (iykyk) and the Bald Head Island Conservancy. We had a little health scare with my 4 year old son and they were super helpful with recommendations on and off the island Highly recommend! August 2022.

Royal Tern is a great property if considering a short or long term get away . Residence and its layout was ideal for our family and our girls friends. More than enough space to share or escape as desired . Screened in porch was ideal for morning coffee and entertaining at nighttime . All necessities for a weeks stay were on hand kitchen wise . Great property if looking for a property with character and close proximity to east beach . July 2022.

Our two families fell in adore with this gorgeous home. It was delightfully decorated, yet comfortable enough for our kids to make themselves at home. Edie and Katie made sure we had everything we needed to be well-prepared for our first trip to Bald Head Island. We appreciated reading on the porch, playing games around the dining room table, driving the golf carts around the island, and flying the kites at the beach. We can't wait to return! August 2022.

Tips and Tricks to get the best rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Bald Head Island. To find the largest rental for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at Carolina Beach restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Look for your local Carolina Beach area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and picking the rightrental:

  • First, have your group select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. The Royal Tern. Gorgeous Cape Fear Station Home Near the Ocean has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your family.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you must book a property that allows animals. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Carolina Beach attraction you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host immediately to document any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.

Victory Beach Vacations

Visitors who are on the hunt for the postcard-perfect vacation rental in the heart of the Carolina Beach or Kure Beach area will find an enticing selection and plenty of friendly customer service when they rent through Victory Beach Vacations. Based in Carolina Beach in the coastal Cape Fear region, Victory Beach Vacations has more than 100 vacation rentals in all shapes and sizes to ensure that every vacationing family can find their dream home away from home on the beach.   When you book your Cape Fear getaway with Victory Beach Vacations, the fun doesn’t end when you leave the beach, it continues with an array of privately-owned properties outfitted with all of the amenities needed for a fabulous beach vacation.   Jenna Lanier, General Manager, explains that her family first opened the rental and property management business in 2002. At the forefront of Victory Beach operations is Lanier’s mother, Caroline Meeks. Meeks is both the Broker in Charge and co-owner with husband, Buck Meeks, who manages the Field Services team with Lanier’s husband, Scott.   For nearly 20 years, the Victory Beach team has worked tirelessly to establish a network of top-of-the-line rental properties for Cape Fear visitors to enjoy. “As far as our properties go,” explains Lanier, “they are all updated, well-furnished and appointed. “We have always performed post-cleaning inspections and since the pandemic, have put freshly laundered duvets over all of the comforters between rentals.”   Lanier emphasizes how important the guests experience is “we strive to give our guests a relaxing, stress free, memorable vacation.” This emphasis on customer service has led to Victory Beach Vacations having a 4.8 Google rating with over 300 reviews by happy owners and guests. In addition to Victory Beach’s superior sanitation practices, the company offers properties for every type of visitor. Choose from luxury oceanfront houses and condos to more reasonbly priced 2nd row properties with oceanviews. Many properties include pools and hot tubs as well, perfect for outdoor entertaining, and many are dog friendly.   Lanier also notes that all properties are within walking or driving distance to Pleasure Island’s main attractions – Carolina Beach and Kure Beach. The former, as described by Lanier, is the more commercialized of the two destinations and features a boardwalk, outdoor dining options and a plethora of weekly activities including fireworks, live music, amusement park pop-ups, and movies under the stars. Kure Beach offers a more residential feel with its fishing pier, intimate restaurants and family favorite, North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher.More water fun awaits, too. “There is a harbor and a canal that feed into the intercoastal. We have several properties on the harbor so guests can bring their boat, kayak, [or jet ski] and travel between islands,” says Lanier.   A stay with Victory Beach Vacations is an annual pilgrimage for most. “A large percentage of guests are previous guests. Some even reserve the same property for the next year as they’re checking out,” Lanier says. “It’s almost like it’s their personal vacation home.”   Even before guests arrive at their vacation destination, the Victory Beach Vacations’ website greets them with a live beach cam and exquisite aerial footage of both Carolina and Kure Beaches.
