Tips to get the best Oak Island rental experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Oak Island. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local Carolina Beach visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing and booking the rightrental home:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Pet-friendly, fully-fenced yard, minutes to beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Carolina Beach rentals search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your contract.

Additional considerations:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
