Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Summertime is high season in Oak Island. To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Carolina Beach visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Make a plan and choose the perfectrental:

  • Select dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. On Turtle Time: Modern Oceanfront Home Ideal for Two Couples or Small Families has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Carolina Beach rental home search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
