Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is high season in Oak Island. Book your Carolina Beach vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Carolina Beach visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by having your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Built in 2021, Cute cottage short walk to beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a specific Carolina Beach attraction you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

More tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
