Strategies for getting the best vacation property experience:

Get the most from your budget:

• The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
• Summertime is the most expensive season in the Carolina Beach area. To book the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
• Some owners offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
• Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.

• If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
• Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
• Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for your stay:

• Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
• Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few concerns.
• Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would at home.
• Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
• Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
• Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
• Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
• Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
• Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
