Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Sticking to a rental budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Carolina Beach area. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular Carolina Beach attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to choose the perfect vacation rental in the Carolina Beach area:

  • To start, have your group agree to a vacation week and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Downtown Sunshine Cottage & GolfCart has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Upon arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
