Tricks and tips for getting the best Oak Island vacation rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer is high season in the Carolina Beach area. Book your Carolina Beach rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Carolina Beach vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Carolina Beach area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations and attractions.

How to select the best vacation home:

  • Select vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Salty Dawg: Dog-Friendly Coastal Cottage with Views of Davis Canal has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property management company before you book the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your vacation family.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

More considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent ratings to stimulate future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your review find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
