Southport Visitors who want to extend their in-town explorations to the waterfront borders and beyond can sign up for sailing lesson, stand-up paddle board (SUP) lesson or rental, or even a “Yoga on the Water” class through Southport Paddle and Sail. Located on the edge of the Intracoastal Waterway and the historic downtown area, and just a shell’s throw from a network of wide open calm waters and salty marshes and canals, this on-the-water excursion company will allow visitors to enjoy this gorgeous coastal town from an entirely new perspective.
While a sailing school is located on-site, the SUP adventures are arguably the most popular activities that Southport Paddle and Sail has to offer. Visitors can sign up for a beginners lesson with a guided paddling tour, a more self-commandeered adventure with boat support, and even rentals for visitors who want to explore on their own steam. Operated by two USCG licensed captains who are happy to share their love of the water with others, patrons can expect a friendly, safe and fun learning experience, as well as a new skill that they can utilize for endless future vacations. Fun for all ages and skill levels, Southport Paddle and Sail will let visitors enjoy the Southport waterfront in an entirely new light.

Zeke's Island Coastal Reserve is found just south of the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, and is one of the three original 1985 National Estuarine Research Reserve components dedicated by NOAA and the Division of Coastal Management. Encompassing a wide range of habitats, the lagoon-like reserve is one of the most important feeding regions of the North Carolina shoreline for a wide range of birds, and is a popular destination for nature lovers, mariners, kayakers, and birdwatchers alike.
Nature lovers who want to take an in-depth and self-guided exploration of Southport's wild terrain can take an easy stroll down the "Marsh Walk." This long boardwalk that begins along Brunswick Avenue on the edges of the busy downtown ends, essentially, in the middle of nowhere, with incredible views of the Cape Fear River, Elizabeth River, and miles of the waterfront terrain that defines Southport as a uniquely coastal town.
